I came in directly after university and had already worked with the recruiting manager as a student, so I expected things to feel smoother.

Instead, the interview felt cold and rushed, like they were moving fast because they had a lot of other interviews to get through on the same day.

Even with that awkward tone, I did end up getting the job. The bigger surprise came after: I realized there wasn’t much room to move forward, and promotions and bonuses seemed to concentrate among a small inner group.

Looking back, the interview itself didn’t reflect the support I thought I’d have, but it still led to an offer—just not to the kind of growth I was hoping for.
