I started with an HR call that described a pretty clear sequence: a one-hour screening with an engineering manager to walk through my CV and expectations, plus some theoretical technical questions, and then a separate technical round with live coding.

I even asked another recruiter for the interview format the day before just to confirm what I should prepare for.

Even though the HR call suggested something verbal/theoretical first, the live session didn’t match that. During the engineering manager portion, I was being told to solve a coding question instead. That mismatch threw me off because my prep had been aligned with the verbal interview style that most companies use.
