I had a tougher, less intuitive interview experience that leaned heavily into niche theoretical questions and left me feeling like the format didn’t match what I expected for a software engineer role.

Coding / assessment — I was given an offline HackerRank-style problem with constraints that effectively prevented using references, and it felt out of sync with my recent, practical experience.
Technical interview style — In another similar path, the technical portion felt like a college viva: deep theory and specific knowledge questions (for example, design patterns and language/implementation trivia) rather than broadly useful CS fundamentals. Outcome: I didn’t move forward, and the takeaway was that the assessment focus felt misaligned and overly theoretical.
