I had a hiring manager interview that went really well, and then things shifted into a coding screen with an engineer who barely spoke English and wasn’t very responsive.

The coding question itself was just a LeetCode medium, but communication made it harder than the problem would normally be.

What also stood out was the context the interviewer gave while we talked through systems: they said they’d gotten popular and grown active users overnight, and the teams were struggling to handle demand and scale. Even though the technical prompt wasn’t extremely difficult on paper, I didn’t finish in a way that led to a positive result.
