OpenAI Software Engineer interview experience

The task was essentially a low-level design exercise where I had to apply best practices in OOP, use design patterns, and produce running code along with test cases.

The prompt was broken into multiple parts, and it gradually got harder as I progressed. That design-and-implementation blend made it feel more like an engineering workflow than a single algorithmic question.

I didn’t receive an offer. Still, the experience was the clearest example of the kind of breadth they were expecting: not just proposing a structure, but backing it up with working code and tests under increasing complexity.
