OpenAI Software Engineer interview experience

After that, I moved into system design, where I was asked to design an online game system supporting hundreds of thousands of concurrent users.

The system design part was where it got real, because concurrency and scale made it more than just a high-level diagram. It required thinking through how services would work under load and how the system would hold up at large user volumes.

I didn’t receive an offer. Still, the two-part structure made it clear they were testing both practical coding ability and the ability to reason about large-scale system behavior.
