I went through a recruiter-focused career fair screen where my background was checked quickly and GPA mattered a lot.

Career fair onsite recruiter screen (intern) — I met the recruiter on-site; the process was primarily a resume/GPA check. They weren’t particularly friendly, reviewed my resume with minimal questioning, asked what I wanted to work on, and repeatedly emphasized that GPA was important and verified. Outcome: I didn’t move forward to an offer, and the takeaway was that the early gate was GPA-centric rather than deep technical evaluation.
