After I applied, I received a polite rejection email that said I hadn’t qualified for the position.

It was delivered in a very nice, courteous tone.

What stuck with me wasn’t the wording—it was the realization that I needed more open source contribution to make my application stronger for this type of role. I didn’t end up moving into interviews, so the process ended before I could demonstrate more directly. The outcome was disappointing, but the message made it clear what gap they thought I had.
