My process had a different flavor right at the start: instead of immediately jumping into live coding, I was given an OA that involved building a database from scratch.

It wasn’t particularly terrible, and I felt like I could work through it, but it also made me aware of how much edge-case coverage matters for a system like that.

The whole thing felt straightforward enough that I could focus on the core modeling and structure, but I noticed the problem could have been tougher or more revealing if there’d been more edge cases included. I didn’t receive an offer from that process, and my biggest reflection was that the OA tested the baseline, but it didn’t put as much pressure on handling the messy corners as I would’ve expected.
