LinkedIn Software Engineer interview experience

I was asked to handle insertions, deletions, and a get-random operation while allowing duplicates, with the goal of achieving O(1). The twist that made it interesting was the “random pick with weight” angle, which came from how duplicates should affect probability.

I remember walking through how I’d represent the multiset behavior efficiently and then thinking carefully about how to support randomness while still meeting the time complexity expectation. The problem references were close to LeetCode 381, but the framing in the interview emphasized duplicates and weighted random selection.
