Sunnyvale, CAPosted Jul 2025 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

A recruiter emailed me and I was invited to a phone screening interview.

The technical question was to implement an LFU-style data structure. I hadn’t implemented that before—I had done LRU, but not LFU—so I was scrambling to figure out how to structure the logic.

On the call, it felt very difficult to come up with an appropriate solution on the spot, even though I understood the general caching concept. That gap between having seen one approach and implementing the other showed up quickly.

I didn’t get an offer. The part I still remember is how hard it was to design and reason through the LFU mechanics live rather than relying on familiarity.
