I went through two phone screens and then an onsite, and the whole thing felt heavily database-oriented rather than general application engineering.

In the coding round, I was asked to implement something from scratch, and the conversation made it clear they wanted true DB experience—more DBA-level work than what I’d expect from an application developer.

Later on the technical rounds got more specific to concurrency and database behavior. I remember being asked about optimistic locking, and also about how two threads on different servers communicate. Then the onsite leaned even further into performance and DB administration: two VPs interviewed me, and the focus was on increasing performance of their system, especially on the database
