I started with what I thought was going to be a straightforward first step: after applying online, I was quickly contacted for a Skype interview.

I remember the interview itself feeling reasonable, but I didn’t handle it well and ended up getting rejected after a few days.

What threw me off was that I wasn’t really told what to expect going into the call. The interviewer also didn’t seem very comfortable with Java, which made the interaction feel a little awkward instead of smooth. By the time the rejection came through a couple of days later, it matched the feeling I had going into the end of the interview—like I’d missed the chance to land it cleanly.
