Jane Street Software Engineer interview experience

None of the questions felt like standard LeetCode; instead, a lot of the material leaned toward small projects and practical coding-style tasks. In the phone screen, I saw purely algo/data-structure style prompts, and the functional programming background I had didn’t really give me an advantage.

On one technical challenge, I was asked to write functions to encode a sequence of moves and then execute a move when the encoded input sequence appeared. It was a concrete, bounded problem and it required careful handling of inputs and logic rather than jumping straight into a known pattern.
