After applying through a referral, I moved past recruiter and hiring manager rounds.

The next step was a take-home exercise that I put a lot of effort into, working for tens of hours before having something ready to present.

The day of the presentation was the low point: the hiring manager stood me up and I never got to finish the discussion. Right after, the recruiter told me the position had been filled. It felt brutally abrupt given how much work I’d already invested.

Even though I’d gotten to a late stage, the experience left a lasting bad taste because it didn’t feel respectful of my time or the effort that went into the take-home.
