I had an interview with a senior manager who felt inexperienced and didn’t come across as someone who really knew how to grow revenue or build out teams.

The experience was surprising because I expected more confidence and clarity from that level.

Even though the conversation happened normally enough, I left with a pretty strong gut feeling that it could lead to downstream performance issues for the reps. I didn’t end up taking the job.

What stood out most to me was the mismatch between the role I was being evaluated for and the manager’s apparent grasp of the fundamentals of the work.
