I went through multiple rounds with sales leaders and built real momentum along the way, including a discovery presentation.

The process felt like it was getting closer step by step, and by the time I reached the final decision, it seemed like I had already earned approval from everyone who’d interviewed me.

Then the CEO ended up having final say. I never actually met the CEO directly, but I remember how the timeline and decision logic shifted after everything else seemed settled—like the earlier consensus didn’t matter as much as I’d assumed. That moment left a strange disconnect: I’d invested time into serious preparation and conversations, only for the ultimate call to land somewhere I couldn’t influence.
