The recruiter reached out and we had a genuinely good conversation, including compensation discussion.

I felt like it was going somewhere because the dialogue was thoughtful, and I believed we were setting expectations in a realistic way.

But about ten days later I received an email saying they couldn’t meet my compensation request given the bar they’d set. The disappointing part was that they didn’t give me a chance to demonstrate skills beyond that stage. It felt like the process ended before it really had the chance to evaluate me.

I didn’t get an offer, and I was left with the sense that the technical evaluation never truly got to happen for me.
