I had a phone screen and then a Zoom interview with the hiring manager, and the tone went sideways quickly.

She wanted me to keep my video on, but she didn’t reciprocate by showing hers. The mismatch between what the job description and the phone screen suggested and what she pushed during the hiring manager interview made the whole thing feel inconsistent.

Her attitude also felt condescending and disrespectful, and it honestly made me believe she thought the meeting was a waste of her time. I ended up feeling relieved that I wasn’t offered the role, because the interview process gave me a clear sense of the culture—and it wasn’t somewhere I’d have wanted to work.
