I had a mostly standard early process that turned frustrating when the role direction changed late in the meeting.

Aptitude test — The first step was an aptitude assessment.
Hiring manager interviews (with late role shift) — I met with a hiring manager for a 45-minute discussion, and then another manager joined; the conversation shifted toward a third-party role they wanted me to consider rather than the direct role.
Role clarity issue — The lack of upfront transparency about the role made the process feel like wasted time. Outcome: I didn’t get an offer, and the key takeaway is that communication about role scope and job type mattered as much as interview performance.
