Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for Discord Software Engineer with an end-to-end socket-chat focus and medium coding difficulty, plus a separate string/logic coding challenge.

Socket-server chat MVP — I built a TCP-based chat server: support multiple clients, handle clean disconnections, and forward messages without echoing back to the sender.
Follow-up chat-server behaviors — I addressed additional requirements like user identity/online presence, and noted what I’d change to make it production-ready and scalable.
Live coding setup constraints — I used my own IDE/sandbox rather than a managed platform.
String constraint problem — I solved a task involving detecting illegal words where patterns could appear in alternative representations
