My interview process started the usual way: I applied and then got a call to come in for an in-store conversation.

In most cases, I’d meet someone in the store—often a manager or assistant manager—where the questions were pretty standard for a sales role and focused on customer service and why I wanted to work there. A common theme was getting me to talk through my approach to selling a product or handling retail scenarios, and I also ran into situations where I had to explain my resume responsibilities in more detail.

Sometimes the process moved in quick steps: I’d do a phone screen first, then follow up with one-on-one interviews in the store. Other times it happened more like back-to-back
