I went through an HR-led screening process with follow-on phone interviews, and despite a normal flow I never heard back.

Recruiter/HR phone screen — I introduced myself, discussed past research experience and projects, answered a couple of behavioral questions, and was asked what other related experience I had; I also had time for questions.
Additional HR/phone interviews with staff — I was asked straightforward questions about why I applied and what interested me, then scheduled phone interviews with two staff members from different offices (one similar-level role and one senior person).
Later steps / wrap-up — after the phone rounds, I waited and never received a clear follow-up or response
