I interviewed at an average difficulty level for a research role, and the main feeling I left with was that compensation didn’t match the market.

Initial HR/senior researcher conversation — I met with HR to arrange an interview, then had an interview focused on describing my work and experience.
Follow-up multi-slot format — The later round was longer and heavily scripted, with most questions staying on-track, only branching if the interviewer wanted more detail. Outcome: I didn’t move forward, and the takeaway was that the role’s offered salary can quickly outweigh a good interview performance.
