I interviewed for a research-focused role and although the scheduling was quick, the technical fit didn’t land.

Phone/initial HR contact — HR reached out professionally about four weeks after I applied online.
Onsite interview — I flew in quickly and met with a handful of people, including my direct boss and a colleague, plus a phone interview component.
Technical discussion — I encountered what felt like mismatches in mathematical notation and comfort with newer methods; I asked to see the project details and felt the work was more basic than expected. Outcome: No offer; I left sensing the role wasn’t a strong match for my level and expectations.
