Santa Clara, CAPosted Aug 2023 · Candidate report, summarized by Dataford

I interviewed for a tougher Software Engineer track at AMD that involved multiple onsite virtual rounds and deep hardware verification concepts, and it felt very hard to break through.

Phone interview — A first pass via phone arranged through an HR contact on LinkedIn.
Onsite: virtual panel (4 rounds) — Multiple rounds of onsite-style interviewing, with cross-site teams and sometimes multiple people in a single call.
Technical focus (Verilog/SystemVerilog + UVM) — The process emphasized advanced hardware verification topics; I wasn’t sufficiently prepared relative to expectations. Outcome: I was rejected, and the takeaway was that the bar for Verilog/SystemVerilog and UVM knowledge was high and preparation mattered a lot.
