After I applied, it took a short stretch of time to hear anything back, and when I finally got in, it was a fairly structured interview with the store manager.

He started with standard questions like my strengths and weaknesses and why I wanted the job. Then he went into more specific prompts, including checking whether I kept up with fashion and even asking about designers by name.

The part that really stood out was the hands-on component. He had me role-play selling—he basically asked me to sell him a pair of shoes, so the conversation turned from “tell me about yourself” into “show me how you’d interact with a customer.” I remember feeling like he wanted confidence and comfort in the moment, not just answers.

It ended with an offer for me.
