I applied for an Airbnb Software Engineer role in early May 2025 and ran into a mismatch between what I was told to expect and what the technical screen actually covered.

Application outcome → recruiter follow-up - My online application was automatically rejected, but a recruiter reached out weeks later.
Recruiter call - We reviewed my experience and I was told the technical screen would cover frontend concepts and best practices.
Prep materials - I was sent prep aligned with frontend concepts.
Technical screen (actual topic mismatch) - The screen turned out to be a data-structures/algorithms LeetCode-style hard problem. Outcome: I didn’t get an offer, and the key lesson is that expectation-setting mattered, especially when prep
