What do you look for in a manager?
Explain the management behaviors, communication style, and support systems that help you perform at your best. Use a specific past experience to show how those preferences affected your work, and distinguish essential expectations from nice-to-have qualities. The interviewer is probing for self-awareness, adaptability, and whether you take ownership of the manager relationship rather than treating management as a one-way service. A strong response is concise, prioritizes two or three qualities, gives observable examples, and acknowledges that effective management may look different across situations.
