Visualize API Data with Charts

MediumPython

Problem

Build a data visualization using chart components for data coming from an API.

Implement build_chart_data(records) to convert API records into a chart-ready object. Each record contains an ISO timestamp and numeric value; combine duplicate timestamps by summing their values and sort labels chronologically. Return {"labels": [...], "datasets": [{"label": "value", "data": [...] }]}.

Constraints

  • 0 <= records.length <= 10^4
  • Each record contains a timestamp string in ISO YYYY-MM-DD format
  • Each value is an integer
  • The output contains one dataset labeled value
  • Timestamps may appear more than once
