Validate Insurance Policy Inputs

MediumPython

Problem

Write a function to validate insurance policy data inputs.

Implement validate_policy(policy) to return True only when the dictionary contains non-empty string values for policy_number and holder_name, positive numeric values for premium and coverage_limit, and valid YYYY-MM-DD strings for start_date and end_date where the start date is not after the end date. Return False for missing fields or invalid values.

Constraints

  • policy is a dictionary
  • Required keys are policy_number, holder_name, premium, coverage_limit, start_date, and end_date
  • policy_number and holder_name must be non-empty strings after trimming whitespace
  • premium and coverage_limit must be positive integers or floating-point numbers
  • Dates must use the exact YYYY-MM-DD format
  • The policy dictionary contains at most a constant number of fields

Function Signature

def validate_policy(policy):
