Implement Underscore-Style Pluck

EasyPython

Problem

Hotstar client code often transforms arrays of content metadata before rendering a carousel or search result list. Implement a Python equivalent of Underscore's pluck method that extracts one field from every record while preserving order.

Formal Specification

Given records, a list of dictionaries, and field, a string, return a new list containing record[field] for each record in order. If a record does not contain field, append None. The input records and dictionaries must not be modified. Field values may be any JSON-compatible value, including 0, False, an empty string, lists, or nested dictionaries.

Constraints

  • 0 <= len(records) <= 10^5
  • Each record is a dictionary with string keys
  • field is a non-empty string
  • Each field value is JSON-compatible

Function Signature

def pluck(records, field):
