SQL Transactions Per Merchant

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Cashfree needs a monthly transaction report for its merchants. Write a SQL query to return the number of transactions recorded for each merchant during the previous calendar month, using September 15, 2026 as the reporting reference date.

Output

  1. One row per merchant, including merchants with no transactions during the target month.
  2. Columns: merchant_id, merchant_name, and transaction_count.
  3. Count only transactions from August 2026, including all timestamps on August 31 and excluding transactions outside that month.
  4. Sort by transaction_count descending, then merchant_id ascending.
