Top N Transactions Per Month

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write SQL to find the top N users by transaction amount for each month.

Use N = 2 for the sample evaluation. Include all transactions, associate each transaction with its user, and calculate totals by calendar month.

Output

  1. One row per selected user and month with columns month, user_id, user_name, total_amount, and user_rank.
  2. Include only the top two users within each month, resolving equal totals by ascending user_id.
  3. Order by month ascending, then user_rank ascending.
