SQL for Top GPA Improvers

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write a SQL query to find the top 5% of students based on their GPA improvement over the last three semesters at the University of Georgia.

Use the students and student_gpa_progress tables. Include only students with GPA values for all three semesters. For a fractional 5% cutoff, return at least one student and use student ID as the deterministic tie-breaker.

Output

  1. One row per qualifying student, with student_id, student_name, starting_gpa, ending_gpa, and gpa_improvement.
  2. Include only the top 5% by improvement, ordered by gpa_improvement descending and student_id ascending.
