SQL for Top Active Trading Accounts

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write a SQL query to identify the top five most active trading accounts based on monthly transaction volume.

Use the transaction amount as transaction volume. Return results for every month represented in the data, treating a month with no non-null amounts as zero volume.

Output

  1. One row per account-month among the top five accounts for that month
  2. Columns: transaction_month, account_id, account_name, transaction_count, monthly_transaction_volume, and monthly_rank
  3. Sort by month, monthly volume descending, and account ID ascending for ties
