Top 3 Cities Per Month

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

How would you write a SQL query to get the top 3 cities per month by trip count?

Use the trips and cities tables. Count trips with a valid city and timestamp, and break equal counts alphabetically by city name.

Output

  1. One row per city-month, with month, city, and trip_count.
  2. Include only the top three cities in each month.
  3. Order by month ascending, trip count descending, then city ascending.
