Top 3 Assets Per Sector

HardSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write a query to find the top 3 performing assets per sector for each month, given a table of daily returns.

Treat an asset's monthly performance as the sum of its non-null daily returns. Return available results when a sector and month contain fewer than three assets.

Output

  1. One row per ranked asset, with month, sector, asset_id, monthly_return, and performance_rank.
  2. Include only the top three assets per sector and month, ranking higher monthly returns first and breaking ties by asset_id ascending.
  3. Order by month, sector, and performance_rank.
