Tooltip Custom Component

MediumPython

Problem

Implement a tooltip custom component and run it to show the UI. Asked in the Round 1 stage.

Write a Python function that returns a JSON-like render tree for a tooltip component. The function must accept trigger, content, placement, and optional visible, and return an object with the tooltip type, normalized props, and accessibility state.

Function Contract

  • trigger: string, the element label that opens the tooltip
  • content: string, tooltip text
  • placement: string, one of top, bottom, left, right
  • visible: boolean, optional, defaults to False

Return a dictionary shaped like a tooltip component tree, with invalid placement normalized to top.

Constraints

  • trigger and content are non-empty strings
  • placement is a string and may be invalid
  • visible is optional and defaults to False
  • Return a dictionary with exactly type and props at the top level

Function Signature
