Third Highest Using Streams

Third Highest Using Streams

EasyPython

Problem

Altimetrik engineering services may process arrays of numeric measurements from platform workflows. Given an array of integers, return the third highest distinct number, using a stream-style transformation pipeline equivalent to distinct(), descending sort, and skipping the first two values.

Duplicate values count only once. In Java, this logic would typically use the Stream API. For this exercise, implement the function in Python and preserve the same transformation semantics.

Formal Specification

Implement third_highest(nums), where nums is a list of integers. Return one integer representing the third highest distinct value. The input is guaranteed to contain at least three distinct values.

Constraints

  • 3 <= len(nums) <= 10^5
  • -10^9 <= nums[i] <= 10^9
  • nums contains at least three distinct values
  • Do not modify the input list
