Take-Home App in Any Language

HardPython

Problem

Tell me about how you would approach a take-home application that can be completed in any language, from requirements to implementation.

Model each requirement as a task with an identifier and dependency list, then return a valid implementation order. Use a topological sort and return an empty list when dependencies form a cycle. Input is a list of objects with id and depends_on; output is a list of task IDs, with constraints of at most 1,000 tasks and valid dependency references.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(requirements) <= 1,000
  • Each task ID is unique
  • Every dependency references a task in requirements
  • A task may depend on zero or more other tasks
