Your question is System to Monitor User Accounts. Take a moment with it on the right.

Talk me through your thinking if you like. When you're confident, submit your answer and I'll grade it like a real screen (7/10 or better passes).

You need to log in / sign up to chat or submit.

Problem

How would you develop a system to monitor user account security? Asked in the Technical Phone Screen stage.

Describe the metrics and monitoring approach you would use to identify suspicious account activity, measure detection quality, and distinguish genuine threats from normal user behavior.

Requirements

  1. Define a primary account-security KPI and supporting metrics.
  2. Explain the calculation, event definitions, and reporting window.
  3. Decompose the KPI by meaningful user, device, geography, and authentication dimensions.
  4. Describe alert thresholds, dashboards, and actions for metric deterioration.
  5. Identify false-positive, privacy, and user-friction tradeoffs.

Data Available

Authentication events, login outcomes, password resets, MFA challenges, device fingerprints, IP and geography signals, account recovery events, security alerts, and confirmed compromise outcomes.
