Problem

Design a system for a given use case with downstream requirements that ingests a certain type and volume of data; include pros/cons and why each architecture piece was chosen over alternatives.

Asked in the Power Day system design stage. Candidate recommended a DB system, comparing OLAP versus OLTP, and discussed multi-region replication and failover. Clarify the use case, data contract, downstream ML requirements, scale, latency, consistency, retention, and recovery objectives before proposing an architecture.
