Swap Two Values Program

EasyPython

Problem

While processing paired values in a Teksystems C/O Allegis Group embedded-system utility, you need to exchange two integer variables. Write a function that swaps the values and returns them in their new order.

The solution should use constant extra space and must preserve both original values, including when they are equal or negative. In Python, tuple assignment is an appropriate approach because the right-hand side is evaluated before either variable is updated.

Formal Specification

Implement swap_values(a, b).

  • Input: Two integers, a and b.
  • Output: A two-element tuple (b, a), containing the original second value followed by the original first value.
  • The function should not modify external state.

Constraints

  • -10^9 <= a, b <= 10^9
  • Both inputs are integers
  • Return exactly two values in a tuple
  • Use O(1) auxiliary space

Function Signature
