Summarize, Deduplicate, Report

MediumPython

Problem

Write a program to summarize data, remove duplicates, and generate a report or table.

Implement summarize_records(records), where each record is a dictionary with a string category and integer value. Remove exact duplicate records, then return one summary dictionary per category containing the category name, number of unique records, and sum of their values, ordered lexicographically by category.

Constraints

  • 0 <= records.length <= 1000
  • Each record contains exactly one string category and one integer value
  • 0 <= len(category) <= 100
  • Values may be negative or zero
  • Exact duplicates are records with the same category and value
  • Output categories must be in lexicographic order
