String Expression Simplification

MediumPython

Problem

Simplify a string expression containing multiple brackets and operands such as + and -, removing all brackets and producing the simplified result.

Implement simplify_expression(expression). The expression contains single-letter operands, +, -, parentheses, and optional spaces. Return an equivalent expression with no parentheses or spaces, preserving operand order and using explicit signs between terms.

The input is valid, contains at least one operand, and does not use unary operators. For example, a-(b-c-(d+e)) becomes a-b+c+d+e.

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(expression) <= 10^4
  • Operands are single lowercase English letters.
  • The expression contains only lowercase letters, +, -, parentheses, and spaces.
  • Parentheses are balanced and operators are binary.
  • The expression contains at least one operand.
