SQL Top Stores by Growth

MediumSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

Write a SQL query to find the top-performing retail stores by sales growth over the last quarter.

Assume the last completed quarter is 2025-01-01 through 2025-03-31, compared with the preceding quarter, 2024-10-01 through 2024-12-31. Return stores with sales in both quarters and exclude stores whose preceding-quarter sales are zero.

Output

  1. The top 3 stores, one row per store.
  2. Columns: store_id, store_name, prior_quarter_sales, last_quarter_sales, and sales_growth_pct.
  3. Sort by growth percentage descending, then last-quarter sales descending, then store_id ascending for ties.
