Can you write a function to sort a list of integers in ascending order? Implement sort_integers(nums), which accepts a list of integers and returns a new list containing the same values in nondecreasing order without modifying the input. For example, [5, 2, 4] returns [2, 4, 5], while [] returns [].

-10^9 <= nums[i] <= 10^9
Return a new list and do not modify nums
