Sequential Behavior with Window Functions

HardSQL · PostgreSQL

Problem

How would you use ROW_NUMBER(), RANK(), LEAD(), and LAG() to analyze sequential user behavior?

Use the users and user_events tables. Exclude events with a NULL event_type and events whose user is not present in users.

Output

  1. One row per included event with user_id, user_name, event_id, event_type, event_time, event_sequence, event_rank, previous_event_type, and next_event_type.
  2. Order by user_id, event_time, and event_id ascending.
