Russian Doll Envelopes DP

HardPython

Problem

Implement a solution to the Russian Doll Envelopes problem using an optimized dynamic programming and binary search approach.

Use the signature def maxEnvelopes(envelopes):. envelopes is a list of [width, height] pairs. Return the maximum number of envelopes that can be nested, where both width and height must strictly increase at every step. An envelope cannot be rotated.

Example: [[5, 4], [6, 4], [6, 7], [2, 3]] returns 3, using [2, 3], [5, 4], and [6, 7].

Constraints

  • 1 <= len(envelopes) <= 1000
  • 1 <= envelopes[i][0], envelopes[i][1] <= 10^9
  • Each envelope is represented by exactly two integers, width and height
  • Envelopes cannot be rotated
  • Both width and height must strictly increase when nesting
